I've been brain-crunching on my approach to the 365 plays. Here are a few developments.
What I've known all along:
I'm going to have a variable-sized cast for each play, staged in front of projected video.
The action from one day's play will bleed into the action for subsequent plays somehow.
I'm going to mix some original and some "repurposed" footage into the video stream.
The plays will run in front of the video, the live action will reach a conclusion, the video will continue, repeat.
Here's what's new:
Each day's performance will be inspired by a different "great film". Or at least movies I find to be iconic in some way.
Some of the repurposed footage will be from each day's film.
The live action will feel like a scene from the film du jour.
Some films I'm thinking of including: Star Wars, Casablanca, The Wizard of Oz, Maybe an Alfred Hitchcock, Possibly Amelie or Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
The net result:
I'm thinking that I can still engage these plays on a vital, intellectual level, while at the same time create a performance that will be fun (and possibly silly) to watch.
